Born on October 26, 1926, in Alakple, a village in the Keta district of the Volta Region, Kotoka rose through the ranks of the Ghana Armed Forces, becoming a key figure in the National Liberation Council (NLC) that ruled Ghana after Nkrumah's removal ☢️

🙌Kotoka completed his basic education at the Alakple Roman Catholic School and later attended Anloga Senior School in 1941. Initially training as a goldsmith, he switched to a military career, enlisting as a private in the Infantry School of the Gold Coast Regiment at Teshie in 1947 ☢️

Kotoka's military career spanned several decades, with notable postings including.

🙌Congo Deployment.He commanded a company of the Second Battalion of the Ghana Army in the United Nations Operation in the Congo, where he distinguished himself and was awarded the Ghana Service Order for Exceptional Bravery.

🙌Promotions: Kotoka rose through the ranks, becoming a Captain in 1959, Major in 1960, and eventually Major General in 1966.

🙌Coup Leadership: He led the coup that overthrew Nkrumah on February 24, 1966, codenamed "Operation Cold Chop.

🙌National Liberation Council☢️ Kotoka became a member of the NLC and served as Commissioner for Health and General Officer Commanding the Ghana Armed Forces.

😭Death and Legacy😭

😭Tragically, Kotoka's life was cut short in an attempted coup on April 17, 1967, known as "Operation Guitar Boy". He was killed by Lieutenant Moses Yeboah at the Ghana International Airport, which was later renamed Kotoka International Airport in his memory 😭

😭Kotoka's legacy remains complex and debated in Ghana. While some view him as a liberator who ended Nkrumah's authoritarian rule, others see him as part of the military intervention that disrupted Ghana's early democratic development 😭
